What is Digital Signing Service (DSS)?

With Digital Signing Services (DSS), you can generate large volumes of trusted digital signatures or digital seals for your organisation, application, or individuals using a certificate with securely hosted signing keys.

Digital Signing Service (DSS) refers to the use of cryptographic techniques to create an automated digital signature or digital seal that verifies the authenticity of a digital document.  This is done by using algorithms that link the digital signature to the document in such a way that any subsequent changes to the document would invalidate the signature. This process ensures that the document has not been altered since it was signed or sealed, providing both the sender and the recipient with peace of mind.

Key Features of Digital Signing Service (DSS)

  • Cryptographic Signatures: The core of DSS is its use of cryptography to generate a unique signature for each document. This signature is based on the contents of the document and a private key held by the signer.
  • Timestamping: DSS often includes a timestamp, which records the exact time the document was signed. This feature is critical for establishing the timeline of document execution.
  • Certificate Authorities: To further enhance security, DSS relies on certificate authorities (CAs). These CAs issue digital certificates verifying the identity of the signer. These certificates help build a chain of trust, ensuring the signature is valid and belongs to the person or entity it claims to represent.

Benefits of Using Digital Signing Service (DSS)

The benefits of Digital Signing Service (DSS) extend far beyond security. By adopting DSS, organisations can:

  • Bulk Automation: Automate digital signing or sealing operations for large volumes of documents.
  • Enhance Efficiency: Digital signatures reduce the time and effort required to sign and manage documents, leading to faster business processes.
  • Ensure Legal Compliance: Many industries and jurisdictions recognise DSS as legally binding. This makes it easier for businesses to comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Promote Sustainability: DSS reduces the need for paper, ink, and physical storage, contributing to a more environmentally friendly business model.
